Question Can I cancel or modify my order?
Answer

Your order is governed by our general terms and conditions of sale, a copy of which you received by e-mail or at the counter, together with confirmation of your order. For online sales only, you may cancel your order in writing within 14 days of delivery of the goods. You will need to send us a form (available on our website), ‘cancellation form’ duly completed to the e-mail address info@plaisirdujardin.com.

For in-store orders, a deposit of at least 30% must be paid to place the order and will not be refunded in the event of cancellation.

Yes, the order can always be increased or reduced, as long as the products concerned have not already been placed on order. Apart from these legal considerations, Plaisir du Jardin aims to satisfy its customers and will consider the extent to which the customer's request is reasonable and merits a favourable response.

Question What can I do if I have received a damaged item?
Answer

Plaisir du Jardin shall be liable for any lack of conformity that exists at the time of delivery of the goods and that appears within two years of delivery. Any non-conformity existing at the time of delivery discovered within two years of delivery and notified to Plaisir du Jardin within two months of the due date, will be repaired or replaced at no cost to the customer. If this proves impossible or disproportionate, the customer will be entitled to an appropriate reduction in price. The burden of proof of non-conformity lies with the customer.

Question Do you deliver to the south of France?
Answer

Of course! Plaisir Du Jardin delivers all over the world and regularly in France, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland. Many of our customers have a second home there and trust us with their projects abroad. What's more, the range of garden furniture is smaller in these countries and the major Belgian brands are generally sold at a higher price.

Our 4 vans ensure deliveries in Belgium and abroad. We prefer to take care of deliveries ourselves to better satisfy our customers. We install the furniture in your outdoor spaces, advise you on its use and maintenance and collect all the boxes. Transport costs vary depending on the destination, but can be reduced if several orders can be pooled.

If the volume of the delivery is too large, Plaisir du Jardin uses a carrier who will be accompanied by our sales team on site to provide the service. For very distant destinations and large volumes, delivery is made by container.

Question What is the delivery charge?
Answer

If the delivery is made in Belgium, the delivery costs are €75 for Brussels and the surrounding area and €125 beyond the city of Brussels. Plaisir du Jardin will nevertheless pay attention to the size of the order, which may justify a partial or total discount on these amounts.

For delivery abroad, Plaisir du Jardin will provide you with a separate quotation for the cost of delivery.

Question Can you replace the worn out cushions in our garden furniture that we bought several years ago from Plaisir du Jardin or from one of your colleagues/competitors?
Answer

The answer is YES: we work with an excellent made-to-measure cushion workshop. Bring us your cushions to get a model or, if they are too damaged, give us a ‘pattern’ with the exact dimensions. You can supply your own fabric or choose from our extensive collection of 250 SUNBRELLA fabrics. We'll give you a quote.

For major collections (MANUTTI, ROYAL BOTANIA, DEDON), the cushions are made by the brand using an exclusive SUNBRELLA fabric from their own collection. The cushions are water-repellent and removable with quick dry foam or ‘rainstop’ interior foam for comfortable outdoor use.

Question Why does Plaisir du Jardin give pride of place to leading Belgian garden furniture brands?
Answer

Historically, most of the major garden furniture brands are Belgian: ROYAL BOTANIA, MANUTTI, JOLI, VINCENT SHEPPARD, JARDINICO, LIMITED EDITION, etc.

Did you know that Belgium has the highest per capita garden furniture sales in the world? Belgians have always loved living in the garden and have a taste for beauty and design.

Working with Belgian brands offers you many advantages:

- the assurance of a wide choice of beautiful, ergonomic garden furniture that can withstand our climate;

- the relationship with these suppliers is close-knit: regular visits to our shops to train our staff, rapid resolution of after-sales problems, the possibility of taking our customers to our suppliers' showrooms to see the entire range of garden furniture, or to pick up furniture urgently from their stock... We want you to benefit from our excellent relationship with these Belgian garden furniture suppliers.

Question How to protect garden furniture in winter?
Answer

Our long winters can be hard on your furniture: low temperatures and humidity. Some materials spend the winter outdoors without protection and without deteriorating: TEAK, CERAMICS, ALUMINIUM, ELECTRO-POLISH STEEL, etc.

Plaisir du Jardin only sells quality teak furniture (A or B, never C). A quality wood means teak that is over 80 years old, very hard and very resistant. Of course, the dampness of winter can cover teak with a bit of moss, which will need to be removed in the spring. To do this, water the table, clean it with Cif and the rough side of a sponge, and the teak furniture will regain its natural shine, a beautiful grey ceruse. If you want to avoid this work in spring, you can also cover the teak furniture with a cover, making sure that it is fitted once the teak is completely dry to prevent it being attacked by fungi. Ceramic and aluminium furniture can spend the winter outdoors unprotected, and can be easily washed in the spring. The same applies to electroplated steel furniture, as long as the supplier indicates on the instructions that the furniture has been treated to remain outdoors without rusting.

If we are talking about garden furniture with SUNBRELLA CUSHIONS (and even more so if the fabric is a lower quality, olefin or polyester fabric), the situation is different. Cushions for chairs, tables or deckchairs in TEXTYLENE or BATYLINE can be easily tucked in (cushions, folding chairs, etc.) or covered with a cover.

Plaisir du Jardin sells most of its furniture with, as an option, a made-to-measure cover, well adapted to the piece of furniture. Our covers are made of grey SHOWTEX and are fully waterproof.

Question How can you justify the very different prices between 2 very similar pieces of furniture seen on the market?
Answer

The weather conditions in our beautiful country are hard on our patio, garden and pool furniture, and the difference in price between 2 pieces of furniture that may seem identical to you is justified by the quality of the materials used.

The materials used in high-quality, and therefore more expensive, garden furniture have the following characteristics:

- Aluminium: its thickness (essential to ensure the solidity of chairs, armchairs and tables) and its thermo-lacquered paint, essential to ensure a long-lasting finish (fluidised powder applied to the aluminium structure by electrostatic spraying). The paint is then heated to between 160°C and 210°C.

- Stainless steel: electropolished 316L and 304L. The treatment concentrates the chrome, nickel and other materials in the steel on the surface, improving corrosion resistance and giving it a long-lasting shiny finish. An essential treatment for poolside loungers or garden furniture exposed to the sea.

- Wrought iron: solid and sanded with anti-oxidant treatment by phosphating and heated to a minimum of 180°C. 100% UV-resistant, does not fade in the sun or in the light, resistant and water-repellent to pool and sea water.

- Rope: material made from a blend of UV-resistant textylene and polyolefin. Resistant and repellent to pool and sea water, the rope is reinforced with 1st quality Sole Mio Italian fibre. This material, which is easy to weave, can be found in garden furniture, chairs and table armchairs woven around an aluminium frame.

- Teak: reject category C teak (less than 20 years old) for category A teak that is 60 to 80 years old.

- 6 to 12mm ceramic composed of sand, clay and natural stone that form a layer heated to 1,100°c. Hygienic surface that does not discolour and is resistant to scratches and wear.

PDJ tries to build its credibility by selling furniture made from quality materials... it's the length of use of this furniture in good conditions that will prove it right!

Question Is category A teak (over 60 years old) still the noble material par excellence?
Answer

Yes, category A teak remains the noblest material for outdoor furniture, a very hard wood that will keep your furniture looking good for decades. Ideally, it should not be oiled to allow it to breathe and, above all, it should not be covered with a tarpaulin to avoid any risk of mould. The colour of the wood will turn grey, so it will be necessary to clean it a little at the end of winter to remove any moss that may have settled on it with the damp.

Question Is it possible to receive samples?

Plaisir du Jardin naturally receives all the fabric samples it needs from its major garden furniture brands. These samples, available in shop, can be borrowed by making a direct request to our interior designers, who will come to your home with all the samples so that they can advise you better. Question Do you offer a guarantee on your garden furniture?
Answer

The suppliers of our major brands of garden furniture generally offer a 2-year guarantee covering any manufacturing and/or construction defects in the furniture that occur when the outdoor furniture is used as intended. Some outdoor furniture manufacturers offer alternatives. For example, FERMOB, the French brand of aluminium and steel furniture in 24 colours, offers a 2-year ‘ageing’ guarantee but a 5-year ‘functional’ guarantee that covers all problems related to the functionality of the product, such as welding, fixings, rivets or folding. BUT, of all these guarantees, the best we can offer you is the fact that Plaisir du Jardin has been in existence for over 30 years, always striving to satisfy its customers: our after-sales service will defend your interests with our suppliers to resolve the problem even beyond the guarantee period. Plaisir du Jardin will obtain spare parts if the repair can be carried out in-house or, as a last resort, will offer to replace your garden furniture at cost price.

Question Do you offer custom-made outdoor furniture?
Answer

The major garden furniture brands offer a wide choice of sizes, combinations, materials, Sunbrella fabrics and colours for each of their ranges.

JOLI and LIMITED EDITION are the champions when it comes to offering a choice of sizes:

-For each JOLI table, you can choose a length of up to 3 metres and a width of up to 1.28 metres for the ceramic tabletop.

-The Belgian factory LIMITED EDITION, renowned for its natural carpets for interiors, also manufactures a superb range of outdoor carpets (90% vinyl and 10% fibreglass), the length and width of which you can choose.

Question Why isn't garden furniture from ‘our own collection’ available in shops?
Answer

The CORE BUSINESS of Plaisir du Jardin is the realisation of projects supported by the offer of major brands of garden furniture: MANUTTI, ROYAL BOTANIA, JOLI, BARLOW TYRIE, FERMOB, JARDINICO, EMU, KRISTALIA.......

Only the major brands are displayed in the shop.

Of course, if there are large projects, we also carry out small ones. We take care of all kinds of projects (terraces, swimming pools, gardens, etc.) to meet your expectations as closely as possible.

Our interior designers are available to work with you on your projects: from getting to know your outdoor spaces, visiting your home to identify the style of your property, and visiting our showroom and suppliers. We'll be with you every step of the way.

Nevertheless, Plaisir du Jardin does not wish to have the reputation of being solely elitist and expensive. We must be able to satisfy all customers who love beauty, whatever their budget. Under its own label, Plaisir du Jardin has developed its own collection of beautiful garden furniture at affordable prices. This collection is displayed outside the shop on our various terraces, including a 100 m2 terrace upstairs. The collection is also on display in our 300 m2 OUTLET in our 2,000 m2 warehouse at chemin de la Praye 7 A in Braine L'Alleud (open from 10am to 6pm, Tuesday to Saturday).

L'OUTLET also features some very interesting outlets for garden furniture from leading brands such as JOLI. Plaisir du Jardin has chosen to set up its outlet in an ‘intimate’ location in the warehouse and not along a busy road: this offer is reserved for our customers.

Question Why are garden furniture prices tending to rise sharply?
Answer

It was only after 2020, which suffered economically with the COVID 19 pandemic, that we saw at the start of 2021 a brutal economic recovery in many sectors, mainly in China and the United States. Production facilities are unable to keep pace, partly because of a shortage of supplies of raw materials such as steel, aluminium and wood.

What's more, the cost of sea freight has almost tripled.

The inevitable result is a price rise of between 5 and 15%, depending on the type of garden furniture, plus delivery times that are sometimes much longer, given that most garden furniture is manufactured in Asia.

Is it temporary? It's hard to say, as shown by the sometimes erratic movements of world stock markets, which fear a major rise in inflation.

Plaisir du Jardin was lucky enough to be able to import all the containers in its ‘own collection’ in the last quarter of 2021, before the rise in sea freight and raw material prices, which, in addition to the weakness of the US dollar, enabled it to keep its selling prices virtually unchanged.

Question How important is Plaisir du Jardin's ‘gifts’ offer?

Plaisir du Jardin is very active in the HORECA and Collectivities sectors, namely by:

  • Participating in tenders mainly from municipalities and supranational institutions (European Commission, NATO, embassies). For large tenders, Plaisir du Jardin will be supported by its suppliers.
  • Studying custom-made outdoor furniture projects with hotel chains, restaurants and cafes as well as projects with individuals. Our interior designers will listen to the needs of our clients, advise them and visit them in order to provide them with an offer supported by various plans.

All major garden furniture brands include an outdoor furniture offer for HORECA, but some make it their core business, such as FERMOB, EMU, FAST and KRISTALIA, adding colors to the functionality demanded by the HORECA world (stackable, foldable and resistant furniture).

FERMOB, the specialist in iron and aluminum terrace furniture for restaurants and cafés, offers custom-made outdoor furniture that meets your specifications with the possibility of markings (logos, graphics, small text).

Question What does the "Christmas market" represent in Plaisir du Jardin's strategy?
Answer

The core business of Plaisir du Jardin is undoubtedly "GARDEN FURNITURE", but until 10 years ago, the "garden furniture" activity was only exercised 6 months a year, from March to August. To compensate for the drop in sales of this activity at the end of the year, Plaisir du Jardin decided, from the beginning of its existence 32 years ago, to open a Christmas market.

Gradually, the "garden furniture" activity has been extended over 12 months.

Four reasons:

1/ Garden furniture is becoming real "design" pieces which, very often, can find their place inside the house. 

2/ Online sales. We receive requests for projects to be carried out in various countries, which are then taken over by our interior designers. 

3/ Our OUTLET, very popular during the sales periods in January and February. 

4/ The desire of more and more customers to take advantage of the winter to study their projects to be ready for spring.

So, yes, Plaisir du Jardin could today do without its Christmas market to grow, but this Christmas market is in the DNA of our store. Our customers would be disappointed not to come anymore. 600 m2 are dedicated exclusively to this Christmas market, a real enchantment created by the team of decorators from the Belgian company GOODWILL, the world leader in luxury Christmas decoration. GOODWILL is present at Christmas at HARROD's in London and in other European capitals. The collaboration between GOODWILL and Plaisir du Jardin ensures this unique Christmas magic which is renewed every year.

Our team provides Christmas decoration for 2 months for our private or professional clients (banks, restaurants, private homes, etc.).

Question Is Plaisir du Jardin present in other countries?

Historically, the PLAISIR DU JARDIN brand appeared 40 years ago in South Africa with the opening of 5 stores, with the opening of Plaisir du Jardin in Brussels 10 years later and, very recently, with the opening of Plaisir du Jardin in Mauritius.
